What is a confidential counsellor?

Many situations can be resolved by talking to the person involved, a manager, HR or a colleague.

If that isn't possible, or feels too difficult, a confidential counsellor offers an independent and confidential listening ear. We help employees put their thoughts in order, explore possible solutions and support them with next steps where needed. The employee always stays in control.

What can employees come to us with?

Inappropriate behaviour

  • Bullying
  • Discrimination
  • (Sexual) harassment
  • Aggression and violence

Integrity concerns

  • Fraud
  • Theft
  • Bribery
  • Risks to public safety

17%

of employees in the Netherlands experienced inappropriate behaviour at work in the past year.

Why it matters

Inappropriate behaviour can lead to sickness absence, lower motivation, staff turnover and reputational damage.

Under the Dutch Working Conditions Act, employers must prevent or limit psychosocial risks at work, including inappropriate behaviour. A confidential counsellor helps you meet that responsibility.

Frequently asked questions

What doesn't a confidential counsellor do?

A confidential counsellor doesn't investigate, doesn't make decisions on the employee's behalf and doesn't act as a mediator. If more is needed, such as a complaint investigation or mediation, another professional takes that on.

How much does an external confidential counsellor cost?

You pay a fixed annual fee. This covers our availability with first contact within 24 hours, the first two hours of support for employees, an annual introduction for new employees, and preparing and discussing the annual report. Any further support is charged by the hour. A one-off set-up fee applies, depending on what is needed. After the introductory call, you'll receive a tailored proposal.

What if our regular confidential counsellor is unavailable?

Your organisation has a dedicated team. If your regular confidential counsellor is unavailable, a colleague from the same team steps in, with the employee's consent. The employee always stays in control.

We already have an internal confidential counsellor. Do we also need an external one?

A combination often works well. Some employees prefer to talk to someone outside the organisation, especially when a manager, HR or a close colleague is involved. With both an internal and an external confidential counsellor, employees can choose who to turn to. We enjoy working alongside internal confidential counsellors and can also provide training and peer supervision for them.

What does the organisation hear about conversations with employees?

Conversations are confidential. We share nothing about what was discussed without the employee's explicit consent, unless the law requires us to. With HR and management, we only share anonymised insights and trends.
