HR and confidential counsellors: clear roles, better collaboration

HR and the confidential counsellor both play an important part in a safe work environment, but from different positions. In this workshop, HR professionals learn what it takes to set up the confidential counsellor role properly and to work together well.

Good collaboration between HR and the confidential counsellor starts with clear roles, the right policies and clear agreements. Who is responsible for what? Which procedures need to be in place? What information can and can't be shared? And how do you make sure employees know how to reach the confidential counsellor?

In this workshop, we take HR professionals through the procedures, policies and conditions needed to embed the confidential counsellor role well. We combine theory with practical cases and, where useful, exercises, so it translates directly to situations HR may face in their own organisation.

What we cover

  1. The foundations

    Conditions within the organisation

What does a confidential counsellor need to do the job well? We discuss formal appointment, visibility, accessibility, facilities, reporting, and access to training and peer supervision, among other things.

    Policies and procedures

Which policies need to be in place, and how do the different procedures fit together? Think of the code of conduct, reporting procedure, complaints procedure and the confidential counsellor's position in the organisation.

  2. Roles and collaboration

The confidential counsellor's role and position

What is and isn't part of the confidential counsellor's role? We discuss independence, confidentiality, role boundaries and what they mean for working with HR.

How HR and the confidential counsellor work together

When do HR and the confidential counsellor refer to each other? What information can be shared, and what can't? And how do you keep in close contact without compromising the confidential counsellor's independence and confidentiality?

  3. Concerns and reports

    Responding to concerns and reports

Using real cases, we look at what happens when an employee contacts HR or the confidential counsellor. Who is responsible for what, and how do you keep tasks from getting mixed up?

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for HR professionals who are responsible for a safe work environment, or involved in appointing and supporting internal or external confidential counsellors.
